TEMPLE TERRACE — As the remnants from Hurricane Milton linger, people are continuing to put their homes and plans back in order.
And that includes the Temple Terrace Uptown Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber has rescheduled it’s 32nd annual Business Expo networking and tasting event for Oct. 29, after the impending arrival of Milton forced the event to be postponed. It was originally scheduled for the day before the storm touched down in Florida.
Chamber CEO Debbie Prescott said the event will still be held at rithm, formerly known as the University Mall, from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday.
“It will be about 95 percent the same as it was going to be,” Prescott said. She said some of the changes will probably include additional vendors who specialize in storm-related issues and disaster relief.
So that should be a good thing for people that still need to talk to someone regarding anything, any losses,” she said.
Prescott also said some restaurants, the taste portion of the event, may need to be replaced. Originally eight restaurants were a part of the 65 businesses scheduled to have booths at the event, but some eateries suffered major flooding in the Fowler and Fletcher avenue areas near the University of South Florida. Two of them are questionable.
While many businesses, and potential customers, meet these days via social media, face-to-face meetings like the ones provided by the expo still hold value, Prescott. Potential customers can meet with the owners of businesses offering services they may be interested in and build relationships that way.
“You build a trust factor when you go to an in-person event,” Prescott said. “You need a business, you have a face-to-face and you can make that connection and determine if they are right for you. They take the time to educate you, you can ask questions and do your due diligence. You can’t do that online.”
