Twenty-four charter members of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861–1865, formed a new chapter, or “tent,” in Clearwater on March 25. Members are from Pinellas, west Pasco and Hernando counties. All members are direct descendants of a soldier from the Union army who fought to save our flag and keep our country united during the Civil War. DUV National President Carol Comp, front center, inducted the tent and installed the tent officers including, left and right of Comp, President Joan Russell and Chaplain/Representative Jane Turner. The tent is named for Sarah Emma Edmonds, a Canadian-born adventurer who joined the Union army disguised as a man working as both a nurse and a spy.
