TAMPA — Offering an exclusive opportunity to acquire limited editions prints from leading and emerging artists, the 27th annual open house and benefit sale will take place on Saturday, May 16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Graphicstudio, 3702 Spectrum Blvd., Suite 100, Tampa.

If you have never visited Graphicstudio at the University of South Florida’s Tampa Campus, now is the time. During the annual open house and benefit sale, guests are invited behind the scenes for a rare opportunity to explore the studio and purchase limited edition prints and sculpture multiples at 10-40% off the list price.

Additionally, rare prints and sculptures by art icons such as Arakawa, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Esterio Segura, Ibrahim Miranda, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Ed Ruscha, William Wegman, and Theo Wujcik will be available.

Techniques used to make prints produced at Graphicstudio include traditional hand-printing processes like relief, etching, photogravure, screen printing, and lithography. Bronze cast sculptures will also be available.

The event offers an opportunity to acquire works from celebrated contemporary artists, including Will Cotton, E.V. Day, Mark Dion, Arturo Herrera, Alex Katz, Vik Muniz, Duke Riley, Anastasia Samoylova and Kenny Scharf.

“Graphicstudio’s annual Open House and Benefit Sale invites the community to explore the studio, learn about printmaking and sculptural editions, and purchase artists’ works at special prices,” said Sarah Howard, director. “Proceeds from the sale support Graphicstudio’s research, our artists’ residency program, and educational initiatives.”

Graphicstudio’s collaborative printers will conduct live intaglio demonstrations throughout the day. Attendees can observe the printmaking process firsthand, gaining valuable insights into the intricate techniques behind these works of art.

Early attendance is encouraged, as only a limited number of impressions from each edition will be available. This event is free and open to all, with complimentary refreshments and snacks available. Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to enrich your art collection while supporting Graphicstudio, a 58-year-old Tampa institution dedicated to advancing contemporary art and creative research.

Part of the College of Design, Art and Performance at the University of South Florida, Graphicstudio is a university-based atelier engaged in a unique experiment in art and education. Founded in 1968 as a nonprofit art-making facility, Graphicstudio is committed to research and the application of traditional and new techniques to produce limited edition prints and sculpture multiples.

DUNEDIN — The Lucky Lobster in Dunedin is home to a new mural, painted in acrylic and water-soluble oils.

Tom Murphy, of the Lucky Lobster, commissioned the artist, Ralph Caouette, formerly of New England, to depict a scene reminiscent of the ambience and cuisine found at the restaurant. Caouette’s time spent in and recollections of the coast, both northern (hilly and rocky) and more southern gave him ideas for this fictitious remembrance titled “Reminisces of the Northeast Coast ... But Not Any Village in Particular.”

Caouette has lived in Dunedin for about five years and contributes to the art center and county school arts. He is a past honoree of National Art Education Association’s MacArthur Goodwin National Lifetime Distinguished Achievement & Success in the Field for his teaching and advocacy for art in education. A reception was held on April 21 welcoming the new mural.

TFO reschedules Symphony by the Sea concert

CLEARWATER — The Florida Orchestra has moved its free Symphony by the Sea concert to Saturday, June 6, at The BayCare Sound in Clearwater, shifting from the original May 8 date due to scheduling impacts from the Country Thunder Music Festival.

Sponsored by the Clearwater Downtown Development Board, the orchestra’s waterfront concert is part of the nationwide America 250 celebration — a chance to come together and salute the American spirit through music. The program mixes patriotic favorites like Armed Forces Salute and America the Beautiful with Tchaikovsky’s explosive 1812 Overture, plus John Williams’ movie themes from Star Wars and Jaws, Broadway hits and classical crowd-pleasers. Resident Conductor Chelsea Gallo leads the evening.

“This concert is about bringing people together,” said Ignacio Barrón Viela, The Florida Orchestra President & CEO. “Whatever the date, our commitment remains the same: to unite our community through music and celebrate the enduring spirit of America.”

This concert is free and open to all. Guests also may choose Preferred Seating for $21, all fees included, which reserves seats in a prime covered section and allows early entry at 5:30 p.m. to beat the crowds. Preferred Seating is limited and will be available starting May 11 at FloridaOrchestra.org.

The event features a Salvation Army food drive supporting local families and a lineup of community partners, including Suncoast Primate Sanctuary, Florida Wind Band, Hope Villages of America and Community Dental Clinic. Families can enjoy the free TFO Instrument Petting Zoo, where anyone can try instruments hands-on.
