Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel

CLEARWATER — Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel will perform on Sunday, May 31, 8 p.m., at the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, 405 Cleveland St., Clearwater.

Tickets start at $32.50. Visit www.rutheckerdhall.com or call 727-791-7400.

By the time Duane Betts began working on 2023’s “Wild & Precious Life” — his triumphant debut solo album — he’d already spent the better part of two decades creating his own version of guitar-slinging, story-driven American rock and roll.

“It felt like the right time to make something that was entirely my own vision,” he said. “This is a record that guitar players will love, but at its core, it’s really a song record. It’s an album about who I am, where I come from, and what I believe in.”

Duane had spent 10 years playing guitar alongside his father, legendary Allman Brother Dickey Betts. He’d release an EP, “Sketches of American Music” and co-found Allman Betts Band.

Even so, the need to create a full-length solo LP gnawed at him; one that nodded to his roots while simultaneously pushing ahead. Duane took up an offer from friends Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks to record at their Swamp Raga Studio in Jacksonville. The album was cut to 2-inch analog tape during a series of live studio performances in 2022.

In April, Duane released “Heartache,” poignant reflection on grief and loss. The track — which honors the two-year anniversary of the passing of his father — serves as the centerpiece of his highly anticipated new album, “Isle of Hope,” which will be released on June 12. This will be his first project in partnership with Sun Records.

“I felt like when we were recording ‘Heartache’ that I was lost in a dream,” producer Dave Cobb said. “The song felt bigger than us and it guided us to where it should be. Duane poured his heart out and left it all on tape.”

In addition to Betts and Cobb, the project also features Johnny Stachela (guitar), J.D. Simo (guitar), Brian Allen (bass), Philip Towns (keyboard) and Derrek Phillips (drums).

A dynamic live performer, Duane and his band Palmetto Motel will continue to tour in support of the new album through the fall.

The band’s most recent album, “Sigma,” was released in 2024 through Fearless Records. Known for intense, heavy breakdowns with melodic choruses, Wage War tours extensively. Their high-energy live performances have earned them praise from fans.

Where most bands erroneously claim wholly distinct identities, Dance Gavin Dance truly defies categorization. The Sacramento, California, based outfit possess the kind of artistic compass shared with broadminded but heavy metal and hardcore-punk rooted iconoclasts like The Mars Volta and Coheed and Cambria, but use it to diverge wildly, charting a new course that incorporates the melodic screamo of Thursday or Taking Back Sunday, with a taste of the earnest pop melancholy of Death Cab For Cutie.

Current members include Will Swan on lead guitar, Matt Mingus on drums, Jon Mess on vocals, and Andrew Wells on guitar.

Ruth Eckerd Hall

‘Happy Together Tour’

CLEARWATER — This year marks the 17th year of the highly successful, hit-filled summer show “The Happy Together Tour.” The touring sensation will return to the Tampa Bay area for a performance on Friday, May 29, 7 p.m., at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater.

Visit www.rutheckerdhall.com or call 727-791-7400.

“The Happy Together Tour” has crisscrossed the nation delighting audiences for over a decade and a half. Filled with chart-topping hits from the ’60s and ’70s, this year’s lineup features The Association, The Troggs, Chicago lead singer Jason Scheff, Gary Puckett, Ron Dante from The Archies and The Turtles, The Vogues and The Cowsills.

The Association enjoyed massive radio success in the ’60s with such No. 1 hits as “Cherish,” “Windy,” “Never My Love” and “Along Comes Mary.” This iconic vocal group was a staple on the radio airways in the 1960s.

This year will include the tour debut of The Troggs. They bring their signature English beat along with all of their solid gold hits. Their most famous songs include the U.S. chart-topper “Wild Thing,” “With a Girl Like You” and “Love Is All Around,” all of which sold over 1 million copies and were awarded gold discs.

Making his first appearance on “The Happy Together Tour” is Chicago lead singer — from 1985 through 2016 — Jason Scheff with such chart topping 1970s hits, such as “25 or 6 to 4,” “Just You and Me,” “If You Leave Me Now” and “Feeling Stronger Every Day.” In mid-1985, 23-year-old Scheff joined the multi-platinum band Chicago; his lead vocals were debuted on the 1986 single, “25 or 6 to 4,” a remake of their 1970 hit, then followed up with “Will You Still Love Me?” Jason remained Chicago’s lead singer for over three decades.

Gary Puckett returns to the tour with his trademark voice belting out his hits again. Fans will affectionately remember “Young Girl,” “Over You,” “Woman Woman,” “This Girl Is a Woman Now,” “Lady Willpower” and “Don’t Give in to Him.”

Ron Dante was the lead singer of The Archies, who were best known for the classic No. 1 hit of 1969, “Sugar, Sugar.” Other big Archie’s hit songs include “Bang-Shang-A-Lang” and “Jingle Jangle.” Ron Dante had another Top 10 hit in the summer of 1969 with “Tracy.” He also served as the lead singer of The Turtles from 2018 to 2025. He will continue to lead the audience and the rest of the artists on the tour with the signature finale of the tour’s theme song: “Happy Together.”

The Vogues are universally acknowledged for their harmony-driven soaring pop sound. They had numerous Top 10 hits with singles such as “Five O’clock World,” “You’re the One,” “My Special Angel” and “Turn Around Look at Me.”

Rounding out the show are The Cowsills, the harmonious singing family of two brothers and a sister that inspired the smash ’60s hit television show, “The Partridge Family.” Their best-known songs include “Hair,” “Indian Lake,” “The Rain The Park and Other Things (I Love the Flower Girl),” “Love American Style” and more.

Crowbar

Teen Suicide

TAMPA — Indie rockers Teen Suicide will perform on Wednesday, May 27, 7 p.m., at Crowbar, 1812 N. 17th St., Tampa.

Tickets start at $29.71. Visit www.crowbarybor.com.

Led by husband and wife Sam and Kitty Ray, Teen Suicide have experienced the strange success of many beloved cult bands where the influence of their pioneering blend of scrappy emotional punk, bombastic post-rock, and lofi charm has fully permeated the underground to such a degree that it’s even seeped into the mainstream. And not just Teen Suicide, but the entire constellation of musical projects between the two musicians — TS alter-ego American Pleasure Club, Starry Cat, The Pom-Poms, Kitty, Ricky Eat Acid, and more — can be heard throughout contemporary music, both as key figures in the enduring 2010s bedroom pop wave, and in farther reaches, like their music being sampled by rappers or their raw production techniques traveling the chain of influence to arrive in pop songs. Real crossover success sometimes eludes the innovators themselves, but if Nude descending staircase headless is any indication, Teen Suicide are determined to avoid that fate.

With their new album, “Nude descending staircase headless,” Teen Suicide have created one of the most unique, dense, and impactful catalogs in modern indie rock. According to Run for Cover Records, the new album pulls off a kind of sonic magic trick, sounding at once like a hungry act on the verge of a massive breakthrough and a confident group of veteran artists who know exactly what they’re setting out to do.

“This isn’t a big swing to do something new and see if it works,” said Sam. “It’s just that so much has changed for us as a band and as people, and it makes this record kind of the start of a new thing.”

And thanks to the random viral TikTok success of some of their older songs, “Nude descending staircase headless” will be released into a world with more potential Teen Suicide listeners than ever before — an unexpected opportunity that the group doesn’t take lightly.

“When we played our first show in a long time it was wild to come back to a bigger audience,” he said, “but it also made us realize it would be a waste to not try and do something with that. Bands are making so much music that sounds like it could be generated by a computer now — think people want something different even if they don’t realize it.”

MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre

Kid Rock

TAMPA — Kid Rock will bring his “Freedom 250 Tour” to the Tampa Bay area for a show on Saturday, May 30, 6:30 p.m., at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4802 U.S. 301 N., Tampa.

Kid Rock holds the Michigan record for most tickets sold with 150,000 for a run of 10 consecutive sold-out shows, and recently set the Little Caesars Arena attendance record in his hometown of Detroit with 86,893 attendees in six sold-out shows. MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre

The Black Crowes

TAMPA — These genre-defying rock legends will perform on Sunday, May 31, 6:30 p.m., at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4802 U.S. 301 N., Tampa.

Also scheduled to perform is Whiskey Myers. Tickets start at $54.95. Call 813-740-2446 or visit www.livenation.com.

Founded by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, The Black Crowes make music for the mavericks, playing rock ‘n’ roll that’s hip-swinging and heavy, dirty and debonaire, bluesy and ballsy, ecstatic and electrifying, and soulful and soaring. They don’t fall in line, and they never cared to either. Instead, they’re right at home with the outsiders, the drifters, the lost souls, the hustlers, and the hellraisers who inhabit timeless tunes like “She Talks To Angels,” “Hard To Handle,” “Wiser Time,” “Twice As Hard,” and “Black Moon Creeping.” No matter where culture went, the multiplatinum Grammy Award-nominated group fearlessly charted their own course, taking flight with the five-time platinum “Shake Your Money Maker” and never coming back down.

Their path twisted and turned from seminal records like “The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion” and follow-up “Amorica,” to a once-in-a-lifetime jaunt with Jimmy Page and accompanying gold-certified live record: “Live at the Greek.” The band’s lore expanded with the chart-shaking “Warpaint” and “Before the Frost…Until the Freeze.” Another generation fell under their spell as they launched their biggest headline tour yet to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Shake Your Money Maker.”

They lit up the next chapter with 2024’s “Happiness Bastards” — which garnered a 2025 Grammy Award nod for Best Rock Album. Between widespread critical praise, they even picked up a 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination.

Support for the tour date will feature the Cold War Kids, as well as almost monday. Cold War Kids will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their prolific debut record “Robbers & Cowards.”

Young the Giant’s “Victory Garden” is an ode to radical empathy. Over the past 15 years, the multi-platinum Southern California band has flourished through distinct sonic eras, progressively solidifying itself as one of the most consistent and influential rock bands of the 21st century. On their sixth full-length album and Fearless Records debut, “Victory Garden,” Young the Giant reconnects with the core experience of 100% band collaboration, writing and recording together as a unit in one room. Written largely during writing retreats in Idyllwild and Joshua Tree and produced by Brendan O’Brien at Henson Studios in Hollywood, “Victory Garden” is a cohesive album experience that both inspires and enthralls.

Lyrically, the album is rooted in radical empathy, capturing the band’s songwriting instincts at its most immediate and heartfelt. Musically, “Victory Garden” showcases the seasoned artists’ collective performances at their intuitive height. The result is a prolific record that beckons a new season of creative fertility for the band and presents Young the Giant as confident, refined and fully inhabiting its voice.
