A rock and roll phenomenon, California’s Quiet Riot is often described as the first heavy metal band to top the pop chart with their No. 1 album “Metal Health.” Their overnight success was driven by the irresistible double whammy of their rendition of the old Slade song “Cum on Feel the Noize,” and the original song “Metal Health.” At the time, the band’s lineup included Kevin DuBrow on lead vocals, Carlos Cavazo on guitars, Rudy Sarzo on bass guitar, and Frankie Banali on drums.

Quiet Riot opened the door for other Sunset Strip “hair metal” bands to get record deals, sending the music industry in a new direction for the 1980s. Quiet Riot has since released more than a dozen albums and continues to tour with a lineup featuring Sarzo along with Alex Grossi, Jizzy Pearl and Johnny Kelly.

The earliest incarnation of the all-female glam rock outfit Vixen formed in 1973. The band went through various lineup changes before reaching its most commercially successful period from 1987 through 1992. During this time, the lineup featured Jan Kuehnemund on lead guitar, Janet Gardner on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Share Ross on bass guitar, and Roxy Petrucci on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 1988 and was followed in 1990 by “Rev It Up.”

The band currently consists of Petrucci on drums, Britt Lightning on guitar, Julia Lage on bass guitar, and lead singer Rosa Laricchiuta.

A.T. and Lauren Cason were born in different parts of the Carolinas and met while studying music in college in the early 2000s. According to their official website, they have been singing and playing together ever since. Both hold master’s degrees in music yet maintain the heritage of their place and people, having grown up in musical families that embodied the traditions of the area. The combination of their training and the roots of their Carolina Piedmont upbringing helped the couple naturally craft a unique and authentic American folk music sound that’s as current and innovative as it is steeped in the folk, country, and blues music influences of the American South.

Having performed for years throughout the Eastern United States, the Casons moved to England where they spent several years touring extensively in the UK, making a name for themselves within the music circuit of England by playing in a variety of venues from historic folk clubs in Cambridge, Colchester, and Norwich to internationally-recognized venues such as the Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead and the Queen’s Hall Theatre in Kent. They have also achieved international acclaim for their song “A Feeling I Get,” a semi-finalist in the 2024 International Songwriting Competition.

After releasing numerous singles, an EP titled “Songs of the Folk,” and their first full-length album, “Sun-Scorched Land,” the Casons have released their second LP entitled “In the Old Kingdom,” which was recorded in a centuries-old converted barn in Maldon, Essex, and the first Church of England parish chapel, St. Michael’s in Woodham Walter, built in the 1500s.

The Casons moved back to their mountain home in Western North Carolina and continue to perform both domestically and abroad.

After a series of indie releases and growing buzz in the Atlanta music scene, Mullins’ rose to critical and commercial success with the release of 1998 “Soul’s Core” featuring his Grammy-nominated No. 1 hit, “Lullaby” followed by AAA/Americana No. 1 hit “Beautiful Wreck” from 2006’s “9th Ward Pickin’ Parlor.”

For the 20th anniversary of his breakthrough album, Mullins revisited the music of Soul’s Core by recording two new versions of the album. He calls this Soul’s Core Revival. This is not a remix or a remaster of the original, but rather brand new recordings with new arrangements of the songs — one album is stripped down solo performances, some on guitar, some on piano and maybe one a cappella, and the second is a new studio recording with his full band, Soul Carnival.
