After a perfect regular season, Paul “Tre” Zancara III is headed to college to continue throwing the javelin.
On May 27, Zancara signed with Saint Leo University in a ceremony at McDivot’s Sports Bar in Westchase that was attended by family, friends and coaches.
Zancara, a senior, had a record-breaking season, finishing with 128 points after first-place finishes in all his field events. On March 21 at the Raven Invitational, Zancara set his personal and school record in the javelin with a throw of 54.14 meters (or 177 feet, 7 inches). His capped off his season by finishing 11th with a throw of 48.38 meters at the state meet, held May 9 at UNF-Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.
It was a two-spot improvement from his state performance in 2025 when he finished 13th at 47.29 meters.
The Saint Leo Lions compete in NCAA Division II athletics as part of the Sunshine State Conference.
