Driver arrested after Clearwater police say he intentionally crashed into officer’s vehicle

CLEARWATER — A Fort Myers man was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after Clearwater police said he deliberately rammed his car into a police vehicle early Saturday, June 6.

Garrett Burr, 28, was booked into the Pinellas County Jail after the crash, which occurred around midnight on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard near U.S. 19.

According to police, an officer was sitting at a red light in his marked Ford F-150 when Burr accelerated and struck the vehicle on purpose. The officer was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was treated and later released for minor injuries.

Burr, who was driving a 2025 Kia Soul, told officers he intentionally struck the officer’s vehicle, according to police. He did not say why and declined to speak further with officers.
