Sheriff’s Office moves to remove abandoned sailboat
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit is handling an abandoned-vessel case involving a 41-foot Gulfstar sailboat in the Tarpon Canal in Hernando Beach, the agency said.
Deputies have completed the required public nuisance paperwork and submitted it for county approval. Once it is approved, the owner will be notified and ordered to either remove the boat or attend a hearing on its status, the sheriff’s office said.
If the owner does not act, the boat may be removed, and a lien placed against the owner to cover the cost.
The Marine Unit recently handled a similar case involving a 46-foot vessel near Chassahowitzka. After the legal process was completed, that boat was removed from the water.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died. The F-250 driver had minor injuries and was not hospitalized.
