PARRISH — What’s bigger than a house party, smaller than a concert and more fun than going out to dinner?
Tiki Tony’s House Concerts in the backyard of Tony and Donna Defusco’s house at 3202 95th Drive E. blend all three in what Tony calls a Trop Rock destination.
“It’s Jimmy Buffet-inspired music,” he said. The couple started hosting musicians two years ago and have had more than 20 concerts.
On Saturday, July 18, the godfather of Trop Rock music, Jerry Diaz, will do a two-plus hour show at 7 p.m. at Tiki Tony’s, where it’s not unheard of that visitors enjoy the music from the swimming pool.
The intimate, nighttime setting lends itself to a group of 40-45 music lovers, with musicians who tell the stories of the songs, he said. Neighbors often attend and bring food.
“We try to keep it quiet because it’s all about listening,” he said.
The backyard concerts are free with donations requested for the artist, from $20 to $25 depending on whether they have to travel.
Defusco writes songs but is not a musician, he said.
“I’ve been a music junkie my whole life,” he said. “I’ve never been a real big fan of TV. I find comfort in music.”
