Fourth of July celebration to feature America 250 tribute, fireworks

ST. PETE BEACH — Residents and visitors can celebrate Independence Day during an evening of patriotic pride and community connection at the “Red, White & BBQ” holiday event on Saturday, July 4.

This year’s celebration will also commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, honoring the rich history, beloved traditions, and shared values that have shaped our nation.

Events will get underway at Horan Park, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, at 5 p.m.

Admission and parking are free.

A special military tribute and flyover will take place from 5:30-6 p.m. to recognize and honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed to protect our nation.

The evening will conclude with a Fourth of July fireworks display at approximately 9 p.m.

Activity highlights will include a barbeque cooking competition and a watermelon eating contest, a DJ, dunk tank, crafts, an inflatable obstacle course, and ice cream treats.

New tech to aid flood determination

REDINGTON BEACH — Officials have launched Forerunner technology, an interactive mapping system that can provide information about a home or business’s risk of flooding.

Put an address into the mapping program, and Forerunner can provide information such as:

• Flood information

• Whether the parcel in an Otherwise Protected Area (OPA)

• Base Flood Elevation (BFE)

• Design Flood Elevation

• Links to the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM)

• Parcel information

“The information collected by Forerunner minimizes errors in elevation statistics and helps the town gain a better Community Rating System (CRS) Class rating,” officials said in a press release. “The town of Redington Beach has achieved a CRS Class 7 rating which provides a 15% discount for all NFIP policies issued in the town.”

You can check your property’s flood zone using our new Forerunner interactive map.

Veterans Park paver project eyed

REDINGTON SHORES — Officials here are exploring a commemorative paver project at Veterans Park in honor of veterans.

Custom engraved pavers would be installed in the park as a tribute to those who served. The town is asking residents to complete a brief survey to help gauge community interest before moving forward.

The deadline to submit the survey is July 17.

The survey can be completed online by visiting https://tinyurl.com/2p9w4vzx or by calling or stopping by Town Hall.
