Patriotic music, watermelon-stained grins and a lineup of competitive eaters filled Sims Park on June 27 as the city held its Red, White and Blue Hometown Extravaganza, a celebration marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The event drew families to the park band shell for live music, food, a Patriotic Paddle, fireworks and the day’s main draws: the traditional watermelon-eating and hot dog-eating contests.
