MADEIRA BEACH — A Hubbard’s Marina crew rescued four stranded boaters off the coast here after their vessel broke down twice during an offshore fishing trip, the marina said.
The crew of the Florida Fisherman, on a 39-hour trip, heard the U.S. Coast Guard hailing a disabled boat over the radio about 3 p.m. July 4, Capt. Will said in a statement. The crew changed course and helped the boaters restart their engines, then went back to fishing.
About three hours later, the boat broke down again, the marina said. The Florida Fisherman returned, and with a Coast Guard helicopter overhead, the crew moved all four people aboard and brought them to shore. No one was hurt, according to the marina.
Arrangements are being made to recover the disabled vessel, the marina said.
“Our crews are trained to respond when fellow mariners need assistance,” Capt. Will said.
