WESTCHASE — About a dozen Westchase Rotary members pulled on reflective vests June 27 and worked their way down Countryway Boulevard, plucking litter from the roadside despite the summer heat.
It’s a quarterly ritual — and one the club will repeat on short notice if a stretch needs attention. The Rotary adopted this section of Countryway years ago and keeps it clean from the Maureen B. Gauzza Public Library to Linebaugh Avenue.
The road is rarely strewn with trash, Rotary president Mitzi Minor said, but it accumulates near the 7-Eleven at the Linebaugh corner.
The cleanup is one of many charitable efforts the club takes on. Early each year, the Rotary holds a bike collection outside Westchase Impact Martial Arts that has drawn more than 300 bikes annually. Members have packed tens of thousands of meals for U.S. Hunger and make regular deliveries to the New Life warehouse, gathering furniture and other goods for people in need.
The club also stays busy with fundraisers, including a bowling event in Carrollwood on July 28 and the New Life warehouse’s annual fundraiser in November. In September, the Rotary hosts its fall Wine and Whiskey event, along with a recurring pub crawl through local Westchase bars and restaurants.
