The BayCare Sound
Men at Work
CLEARWATER — Men at Work and Toad the Wet Sprocket will perform on Saturday, July 18, 7 p.m., at The BayCare Sound, 255 Drew St., Clearwater.
Tickets start at $54.50. Visit www.rutheckerdhall.com.
Men At Work were born in Melbourne, Australia, in the middle of 1979. The band went on to become a globally successful Grammy winning, multi-platinum selling act, during the early ’80s. The original band, however, came apart relatively quickly and had disintegrated by 1985. Colin Hay and Greg Ham responded to demand and toured many parts of the world as Men At Work from 1996 into the 2000s. Sadly, Ham passed away in 2012.
Founding member Colin Hay has developed a solo career over the last 35 years, writing, recording, and touring extensively throughout the world as a solo artist. He has performed as part of Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band. Since 2019, he has also toured and played under the Men At Work banner with his LA-based group of musicians, where he plays an exclusively Men At Work set, including all the hits and dearly loved songs which clearly have stood the test of time.
Many of Toad the Wet Sprocket’s earliest champions were record store clerks who put the Santa Barbara quartet’s early albums into unsuspecting listeners’ hands, convincing them to overlook their unusual band name and give them a shot, perhaps comparing them to R.E.M. Lead singer Glen Phillips’ heartfelt, introspective lyrics expressed in his deep, buttery croon backed by the earnest instrumentation, catchy melodies and vocal harmonies of guitarist Todd Nichols, bassist Dean Dinning and drummer Randy Guss had fans hooked from the outset. Toad’s debut album, “Bread & Circus,” recorded DIY-style in a tract home for a meager $600 and released independently in 1988, was raw and unvarnished but clearly captured Toad’s magic as a band. The record caught the attention of major label Columbia Records, which re-released it unchanged the following year.
Japan’s Shonen Knife will also perform.

Logen’s sophomore album, “New Medicine,” includes his original, acoustic version of a song he wrote with Jennifer Hanson, called “Breaking Your Own Heart,” which was covered by Kelly Clarkson on her platinum-selling, Grammy-winning album, “Stronger.” “New Medicine” is an articulate, measured examination of the inner-workings of the human mind and heart on a backdrop of gorgeous, sweeping, acoustic-based, rhythmic folk/pop.
Logen grew up in the small college town of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He was raised listening to Americana and folk classics like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Gordon Lightfoot. He comes from a musical family and learned to play guitar from his father. He recorded a folk project with his brother, Dave.
Michael’s songs have been featured on many TV shows including multiple placements on “Nashville,” “Suits,” “Parenthood,” “The Fosters” and “One Tree Hill.”

When the Moodies stopped touring in 2018, Lodge made it his absolute passion to keep the Moody Blues music alive. Lodge had embarked on his first solo tour in 2015, aided by his friend and music director Alan Hewitt, keyboardist for the Moody Blues, and what followed was a series of tours capturing the music that Lodge described as the soundtrack of his life. The shows grew from simple shows in small venues, to the extravaganza that followed, with captivating video and lights joining the impeccable sound, energy, and passion that Lodge, Hewitt, and the 10,000 Light Years Band, brought to this magical and iconic music.
While Lodge was building this stunning show, his daughter Emily met Jon Davison of Yes. Not only did they fall in love and later marry, but Davison and Lodge became great friends. Davison joined the 10,000 Light Years Band, partnering with Lodge to continue to honor the music of the Moody Blues. Years of touring followed.
After Lodge died in October 2025, Davison and Hewitt began thinking about how they could continue Lodge’s mission to keep the music alive.
The concert will be a celebration of Lodge and the music of The Moody Blues. The set list will incorporate hits and fan favorites, and will include enchanting vocals and visuals of Lodge, together with the voice of Davison, and the 10,000 Light Years Band.

With more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, in addition to being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the multi-Grammy Award-winning band has been hailed by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the “most important bands in music since the dawn of the rock and roll era.” The legendary rock and roll band with horns, Chicago, came in as the highest charting American band in Billboard Magazine’s Top 125 Artists of All Time. Chicago received The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys and was previously inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014.
The original three band members are Robert Lamm on keyboards and vocals, Lee Loughnane on trumpet and vocals and James Pankow on trombone. The band line-up also includes Ray Herrmann on sax and flute, Wally Reyes, Jr. on drums, Neil Donell on vocals, Ramon “Ray” Yslas on percussion, Tony Obrohta on guitar and Eric Baines on bass and vocals.
Creating and recording new music is often considered the lifeblood of any band — an ethos album-oriented rock torchbearers Styx continue to embody with the 2025 release of “Circling from Above,” the 18th studio album in their formidable catalog via the band’s label, Alpha Dog 2T/UMe. Spanning 13 tracks, the album navigates the complexities of the human experience through the intersecting lenses of technology and nature. The album features contributions from all seven members of the band, including founding guitarist/vocalist James “JY” Young, guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw, original bassist Chuck Panozzo, longtime drummer Todd Sucherman, keyboardist/vocalist Lawrence Gowan, guitarist/vocalist Will Evankovich and bassist Terry Gowan.
The seven men comprising Styx draw from over five decades of chart hits, joyous singalongs, and hard-driving deep cuts. Like a symphony that builds to a satisfying crescendo, a Styx set covers a wide range of stylistic cornerstones.

Since the arrival of the blockbuster album — with standouts singles such as the No. 1 hit “Am I Okay?” and platinum-certified “No Caller ID” — the Emo Cowgirl has made history with her game-changing “Am I OKAY? Charlyn Marie Marshall, also known as Chan Marshall or by her stage name Cat Power, is an American singer-songwriter, musician and occasional actress and model. Cat Power was originally the name of Marshall’s first band, but has come to refer to her musical projects with various backing bands.
Marshall was discovered opening for Liz Phair in 1994 by Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth and Tim Foljahn of Two Dollar Guitar, with whom she recorded her first two albums, “Dear Sir” (1995) and “Myra Lee” (1996), on the same day in 1994. In 1996 she signed with Matador Records, and released a third album of new material with Shelley and Foljahn, “What Would the Community Think.”
Following this, she released the critically acclaimed “Moon Pix” (1998), recorded with members of the Dirty Three, and “The Covers Record” (2000), a collection of sparsely recorded cover songs. After a brief hiatus she reemerged in 2003 with “You Are Free,” featuring guest musicians Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder, followed by the soul-influenced “The Greatest” (2006), recorded with numerous Memphis studio musicians, and a second covers album, “Jukebox” (2008).
“Covers,” released in 2022, is Cat Power’s 11th and most recent studio album.
Fogartyville
Selwyn Birchwood
SARASOTA — Visionary guitarist, lap steel master, and vocalist Selwyn Birchwood will celebrate the release of his fifth Alligator Records album, “Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues,” with two live performances on Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18, 8 p.m., at Fogartyville, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota.
Tickets start at $17. Visit www.wslr.org/fogartyville/.
Birchwood first hit the blues scene in 2011 with the self-released, self-produced “FL Boy.” After winning the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, beating 150 other bands, Birchwood found doors swinging open.
He took a big step forward in 2014 with his Alligator Records debut album, “Don’t Call No Ambulance.” The album earned rave reviews from critics and won both the Living Blues Award and the Blues Music Award for Best New Artist Debut. He followed in 2016 with fan-favorite “Pick Your Poison” and, in 2021, with the groundbreaking “Living in a Burning House.” He won the BMA Song of the Year Award for that album’s “I’d Climb Mountains.”
He followed up with “Exorcist” in 2023.
Now, Birchwood is back with “Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues,” his sixth Alligator Records album, released on March 27. The Award-winning Florida musician delivers 10 imaginative, laser-focused, vibrant original songs, produced by Birchwood and recorded in Florida. “Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues” is Birchwood’s own fully realized artistic statement, and the first of his Alligator albums that he has produced by himself.
“Producing allowed me to really take the wheel and steer the music to the exact destinations that I wanted to go,” the bluesman said in a press release. “It allowed me to present these songs with the full, three-dimensional sound that I have wanted all along.”
According to Birchwood, this album is the full realization of the sound he has been cultivating.
“It tiptoes the tightrope between gritty gutbucket blues and contemporary grooves to create a soundscape that honors the roots but allows listeners to experience the music from a modern vantage point. Sharing songs with this much honesty allows us all to connect to music on a higher level … to feel a little less isolated and a little more ‘seen’ in what can be a hard life at times.”
Live, Birchwood is a true force of nature. A favorite among blues fans and jam band fans alike, his ability to win over an audience is proven night after night. With his warm, magnetic personality, Birchwood is as down-to-earth as his music is electrifyingly jaw-dropping. With his band feeding off his energy, the 6’3” musician roams the stage barefoot, ripping out memorable guitar licks with ease, his soulful, rocks-and-gravel vocals impossible to ignore.
