HERNANDO COUNTY -- The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said it is aware of rumors circulating on social media regarding two deceased individuals located in the area of Commercial Way and Cortez Boulevard near Nativity Lutheran Church on July 6.
To help dispel misinformation, the agency said it wants to clarify that these are two separate and unrelated death investigations.
Deputies initially responded to the area after receiving a report of a nude male acting erratically. Upon making contact, the individual experienced what is believed to have been a medical emergency. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced deceased. At this time, his death is believed to be the result of a medical episode.
During the course of the investigation, deputies also located a second deceased adult male inside a nearby tent. That individual has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and the investigation into his death remains ongoing.
At this time, there are no indications of foul play in either case, and there is no threat or danger to the community.
“We understand there has been significant speculation online, but we encourage the public to rely on official information released by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office rather than rumors circulating on social media,” the agency said. “Should additional information become available that can be released, we will provide updates.”
