The Hernando County Supervisor of Elections Office started mailing vote-by-mail ballots July 2 to eligible military and overseas voters with a current request on file, Supervisor of Elections Denise LaVancher said.
Ballots for eligible domestic voters will be mailed Thursday, July 9, to those with a current request on file.
There is still time to request a ballot. Requests can be submitted at HernandoVotes.gov or by calling the office at 352-754-4125. Written requests are also accepted but must include the voter’s date of birth; Florida driver’s license or ID number, or the last four digits of their Social Security number; signature; and Hernando County residential address.
Vote-by-mail ballots cannot be forwarded, so voters should keep their address current with the office. To have a ballot sent to a different address, the office needs the voter’s signature and the alternate mailing address.
Other things to remember about vote-by-mail ballots:
• The deadline to request a ballot for the Aug. 18 primary is 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6.
• Voted ballots must reach the Elections Office by 7 p.m. on Election Day.
• Ballots returned by mail require postage.
• Voters must sign the voter’s certificate on the back of the return envelope.
• Ballots may be dropped off at any secure ballot intake station (drop box) at early voting sites or either of the Supervisor of Elections offices during business hours.
• Vote-by-mail ballots will not be accepted at polling places on Election Day.
• Voters who decide to vote in person should bring their vote-by-mail ballot and surrender it to the poll worker at check-in. The ballot cannot be used as a sample.
• Voters can sign up for ballot status notifications through BallotTrax at hernandovotes.ballottrax.net/voter.
