WESLEY CHAPEL — Wesley Chapel now has a trio of major hospitals, and more medical facilities are on the way.

Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health Wiregrass Ranch Hospital, a five-story, 102-bed facility at 3000 Wiregrass Ranch Blvd., opened this week. The hospital plans to grow to 300 beds, and Orlando Health will add two more buildings and an off-site facility by 2028.

Construction is already underway on two medical office buildings at the $750 million, 47-acre campus. One will span 90,000 square feet; the other will house a dedicated women’s center. In a few months, Orlando Health will break ground on a 50,000-square-foot medical office building on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The company is also opening a 10,865-square-foot freestanding emergency department at State Road 54 and Henley Road, with 10 exam rooms, an imaging suite, a lab and an ambulance bay.

The Wiregrass campus will employ more than 400 people, said Joe Delatorre, president of the hospital. Along with the 102 beds, it has 29 emergency department exam rooms, 12 intensive care beds, nine operating rooms — including a hybrid room with advanced imaging — two catheterization labs, two complex digestive health endoscopy suites, an electrophysiology lab, an interventional radiology lab, a bronchoscopy suite and an imaging department. It also has a chapel and a full-size cafeteria.

“At the end of the day,” Delatorre said, “it’s really about the staff that make our hospitals the best — and I really mean that. It helps that you have one of the nicest hospitals I have ever seen, but our employees, it’s clear they want to work for Orlando Health and take great care of patients.”

“People will actually come to the hospital to eat, even if they’re not a patient or seeing someone,” he said of the cafeteria. “That’s how good the food is — I’m being serious.”

In a news release, John Moore, senior vice president of Orlando Health’s West Florida Region, tied the opening to the system’s broader ambitions in the market. “Health care is about more than treating illness — it’s about building long-term relationships and supporting the health of our entire community,” he said. “Wiregrass Ranch Hospital is a reflection of that mission.”

Orlando Health now joins AdventHealth and BayCare with major hospitals in Wesley Chapel, all within miles of one another. In 2027, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital will open a five-story pediatric campus near Interstate 75 and Overpass Road. The 239,000-square-foot facility will have a 16-bed emergency center, 56 inpatient beds and four operating rooms.

The expansions mirror a broader push by health care systems — including AdventHealth, HCA and BayCare — to keep pace with Pasco County’s residential growth. The county has added about 500,000 residents since 1970 and is projected to gain more than 200,000 more through 2045.

Orlando Health is a nonprofit health care system based in Orlando. It serves the southeastern United States and Puerto Rico.
