SEMINOLE — An 85-year-old man died and his 20-year-old passenger was seriously injured Monday, July 13, after a two-vehicle crash on Seminole Boulevard, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said James Crane III of St. Petersburg was driving north on Seminole Boulevard about 6:02 p.m. when he tried to turn west onto 50th Avenue North and failed to yield to a southbound vehicle driven by 18-year-old Lily Preston of St. Petersburg.

The vehicles collided, heavily damaging the passenger side of Crane’s vehicle, where 20-year-old Dacosta Crane was riding, investigators said.

James Crane was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:33 p.m. Dacosta Crane was also taken to a hospital and remained on life support, deputies said. Preston was evaluated at the scene and was not injured.

Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash, deputies said. The investigation is ongoing.
