Duke offers free home energy check

LARGO — Duke Energy and the city of Largo are encouraging residents to complete a free Home Energy Check and receive personalized recommendations to help them save energy and money.

A team of energy efficiency experts from Duke Energy will be available at Largo City Hall in Horizon West Bay, 440 West Bay Drive, on Tuesday, July 21, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., to sign up customers for a Home Energy Check and share additional tips, resources, and programs that can help lower their electric bills.

The program is open to all residential customers who have not had a Home Energy Check within the past two years, including those who rent their home or live in an apartment.

Home Energy Checks are available at no cost to residential customers and can be completed in one of three ways: online through a simple, self-directed questionnaire; over the phone with a Duke Energy advisor; or in person with a Duke Energy advisor visiting the home.

After completing a Home Energy Check, customers will receive a report outlining their past and current energy usage, along with personalized recommendations to improve energy efficiency.

Participating customers may also qualify for rebate programs that could save them up to $3,800 on home improvements, including attic insulation upgrades, duct testing and repairs, and replacing heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems and windows with more energy-efficient alternatives.

Commission celebrates Parks & Recreation Month

LARGO — City commissioners celebrated July as Parks & Recreation Month at their July 7 meeting, honoring the essential role that parks and recreation play in creating a healthy, active, and connected community. Each July, communities nationwide recognize the dedicated professionals who support parks, recreation facilities, and programs that enhance quality of life.

Recreation Program Manager Jessica Crawley spoke briefly to share the many ways parks and recreation strengthen the community through connection, play, nature, and well-being.

Largo’s parks, recreation facilities, and programs encourage outdoor activity and help residents build lasting memories with friends and family, the city said in a press release.

The recognition also highlights the city’s ongoing commitment to public health and safety, as well as community pride, which are key focus areas of Largo’s Vision 2030 Strategic Plan.
