Sheriff’s office: Deaths near church are unrelated
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said two men found dead July 6 near Commercial Way and Cortez Boulevard died in separate, unrelated circumstances, pushing back July 13 against speculation on social media.
Deputies were called to the area, near Nativity Lutheran Church, on a report of a nude man behaving erratically, the Sheriff’s Office said. When deputies reached him, the man appeared to suffer a medical emergency and died despite lifesaving efforts, according to the agency. His death is believed to have been the result of a medical episode.
While investigating, deputies found a second man dead inside a nearby tent, the sheriff’s office said. His body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and that investigation is continuing.
There are no indications of foul play in either death and no threat to the public, the agency said.
“We understand there has been significant speculation online, but we encourage the public to rely on official information released by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office rather than rumors circulating on social media,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Should additional information become available that can be released, we will provide updates.”
Three displaced, three cats rescued in Spring Hill house fire
SPRING HILL — Three adults were displaced, and three cats were rescued after a kitchen fire July 14 at a home in the 1400 block of Amy Circle, Hernando County Fire Rescue said.
Crews called to the home at 12:43 a.m. found light smoke coming from the front door, the agency said. Firefighters stretched a hose line and knocked down the fire in the kitchen.
No injuries were reported. The fire was caused by an electrical problem in the kitchen, according to Fire Rescue.
