A Hernando County man beat his wife unconscious and then fought with the deputy who came to help her, punching him and tearing away his radio and body camera, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jamie Allison Jr., 36, faces charges of domestic battery by strangulation, aggravated domestic battery, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, and depriving a deputy of the means of protection or communication, according to a release by the Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy on patrol in the Riverdale community in southeastern Hernando County was flagged down about 12:07 a.m. July 21 by a resident on Patrice Road who reported a disturbance at a neighbor’s home, the release said.
When Deputy C. Hauenstein knocked on the door, Allison answered with blood on his body and was acting irrationally, according to the release. A woman lay unconscious on the ground behind him, the release said.
Allison grew agitated as Hauenstein tried to speak with him and advanced on the deputy, the release said. Hauenstein fired his Taser, but it had no effect, according to the release.
The two struggled and fell to the ground, where Allison battered the deputy, ripped off his radio and knocked off his body-worn camera, the Sheriff’s Office said. Hauenstein took Allison into custody with help from the neighbor who reported the disturbance, according to the release.
Allison’s wife was flown by medical helicopter to an area hospital and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, the Sheriff’s Office said. Hernando Today does not identify victims of domestic violence.
Allison told deputies that he and his wife had been having marital problems and that he had been drinking, the release said. He said the two argued and that he “raged out,” and that the next thing he remembered was fighting with the deputy, according to the release. He told deputies he did not remember battering his wife and blamed the incident on blacking out because of post-traumatic stress disorder related to his marriage, the release said.
Allison broke both wrists during the fight with his wife and was taken to an area hospital for treatment, the Sheriff’s Office said. Hauenstein suffered minor injuries.
Allison was booked into the Hernando County Detention Center after treatment and was initially held without bond pending his first appearance, the release said. Court records did not list an attorney for him.
