A Spring Hill man is accused of grabbing his former girlfriend by the hair, holding a knife to her neck and forcing her into his vehicle outside her workplace, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
Jose Alberto Vazquez Carrasco, 32, was arrested on charges of kidnapping and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, deputies said.
At about 12:57 a.m. July 10, deputies responded to a report of a kidnapping and aggravated battery, according to the sheriff’s office.
The woman told deputies she had ended her relationship with Vazquez earlier that day and had gone to stay with friends. Around midnight, a friend drove her to her workplace in Spring Hill, where Vazquez confronted her, according to the arrest report.
Vazquez grabbed the woman by the hair, held a knife to her neck and forced her into his vehicle, deputies said. She was stabbed in the abdomen during the struggle. Vazquez then drove around the area before releasing her on Oberlin Street, where deputies found her, according to the report.
Witnesses saw part of the incident, and one recorded cellphone video that showed Vazquez holding a knife to the woman’s throat and ordering her into the car, deputies said.
Deputies searching for Vazquez spotted his vehicle a short time later on Deltona Boulevard and stopped it, taking him into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office. The woman was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to a trauma center.
Detectives said surveillance video from the woman’s workplace corroborated the witness accounts. The footage showed a man matching Vazquez’s description pushing the woman against a beige vehicle while holding a knife, then lunging toward her before forcing her into the front passenger seat, according to the report.
Vazquez told detectives he drove to the woman’s workplace to confront her about their relationship and acknowledged grabbing her by the hair and forcing her into his vehicle, according to the report. He admitted keeping a knife in the vehicle but denied stabbing her intentionally, saying he only wanted to talk. He could not tell detectives what happened to the knife, deputies said.
Vazquez was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center and was being held without bond. The investigation is continuing.
