TAMPA — Los Zumo, a Venezuelan rock band based in Tampa, announced the release of its new single “Cadenas” (Chains), a song that explores one of the defining realities of the digital age.
According to the band, the inspiration for the new single came from the invisible chains created by technology, the endless cycles of the digital world, and the growing disconnection between people and the world around them.
Far from abandoning their rock roots, the song expands their musical identity into new landscapes while retaining the energy, emotion and authenticity that have always characterized them.
The production of “Cadenas” brought together two key figures from the U.S. and Latin American rock scenes — artists whose music influenced the band members’ own musical development and whose legacies now blend naturally with Los Zumo’s identity.
The single features Peter Klett, founding guitarist of the multiplatinum American band Candlebox. His style helped bring to life some of the most influential rock tracks of the 1990s, such as “Far Behind,” “Change,” “You,” and “Cover Me.”
For Klett, “Cadenas” also marks the first Spanish-language production of his career.
For Los Zumo, Klett represents the bridge between the classic rock that shaped their influences and the modern direction they sought for “Cadenas.”
His involvement allowed them to achieve the exact sound they envisioned — preserving the power and authenticity of rock while naturally incorporating electronic textures and contemporary production.
“For us, Peter is the bridge between the classic rock we grew up with and the new direction we wanted to explore. We didn’t want to lose our identity; we wanted to expand it. His experience helped us strike the perfect balance between powerful guitars, electronic textures, and modern production, all while sounding unmistakably like Los Zumo,” said Carlos Zumo, a member of the band.
Another key element comes from renowned Venezuelan keyboardist Jaime Verdaguer, whose unmistakable sound became an essential part of the musical identity of Zapato 3 — a group considered for decades to be the most influential rock band in the Venezuelan scene.
His keyboard work is far more than a special guest appearance; it is a fundamental component of the song.
“From the first time I saw Zapato 3 live, one of the things that struck me most was the sound of Jaime’s keyboards. The guitars were like a truck; the keyboards were like a train. That’s not something you often see with a keyboardist playing rock live. Today, we have a piece of that sound in one of our songs, and it is a true honor for us,” Zumo said.
Upcoming concerts
Cristian Salinas, the band’s manager, also spoke with CENTRO Tampa and confirmed Los Zumo’s next two concerts.
On Friday, Aug. 7, the band will be holding a tribute to Spanish rock from the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s in Ocala at 620 S. Pine Ave. Doors open at 8 p.m. The other concert will take place in Tampa at Casa 21 on Saturday, Sept. 5.
