Junior Woman’s Club seeks new members
SEMINOLE — The Seminole Junior Woman’s Club is recruiting members, women 18 and older from Seminole and surrounding communities.
The club meets at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month at Lake Seminole Square, 8333 Seminole Blvd. Prospective members can join at any monthly meeting.
The group focuses on programs for children and veterans. Its activities include serving a meal at the Ronald McDonald House in St. Petersburg, the Share Our Spirit food drive that feeds Seminole children over the winter school break, and an annual purse auction in April that raises money for the club’s community programs.

Optimists hear from new Seminole council member
SEMINOLE — Seminole City Council member Kadi Hendricks Tubbs spoke to the Seminole Breakfast Optimist Club on July 21 at Mama’s Kitchen, describing the military charity she has volunteered with for more than 11 years.
Operation Military Matters sends care packages to U.S. service members stationed overseas. Tubbs’ daughter, Graci, founded the group in 2015 as a fourth grader. It has since sent close to 14,000 packages, according to Tubbs.
A Seminole native, Tubbs is a former television news reporter and anchor whose work included stints at WFLA and WTOG. She wrote the “Mom 2 Mom” column for the Seminole Beacon.
The council appointed Tubbs in the spring to the seat held by Jim Quinn, who retired in March after years on the board. She is running for the seat in November.
Seminole woman records lullaby for children’s book
SEMINOLE — Seminole resident Brie Gwaltney recorded the original lullaby featured in “A Mother’s Heart Song,” a new bedtime picture book written by her sister, Tricia Aquilar.
Readers can scan a QR code inside the book to hear Gwaltney sing the song while reading. The story follows a boy who carries his mother’s nightly song with him as he grows and, facing self-doubt, remembers her words.
Aquilar, who runs Aquilar Publishing, wrote the book as a gift for her sister and handled its design and production. A companion coloring book is also available.
