Housing agency to host mental wellness fair
BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County Housing and Supportive Services will host its second annual Back to School Mental Wellness Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place.
The free, family-friendly event is designed to promote mental health, reduce stigma and give students and families coping tools and community resources ahead of the school year.
Attendees can take part in breakout sessions, visit wellness stations and meet with community organizations. Free food, raffles and giveaways will be offered.
Sheriff’s Office warns of deceptive mailings
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about mailings sent under the name “Hernando County Citizens Patrol.”
The agency said it is investigating reports of unauthorized correspondence sent to local addresses using that name and the return address of the sheriff’s District 2 office, 7499 Forest Oaks Blvd.
The mailings are not affiliated with or authorized by the Sheriff’s Office, the agency said. Residents who receive one should not respond.

Bell ringing to mark Constitution’s signing
SPRING HILL — The Winding Waters Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will mark the signing of the U.S. Constitution with a Bells Across America ceremony at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at VFW Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive.
The ceremony will feature members of the DAR and the Sons of the American Revolution in colonial attire, a color guard, music, historical readings and the ringing of bells.
The event is free and open to the public.
Agencies respond to accident off Hernando Beach
Hernando County Fire Rescue, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a two-boat crash off Hernando Beach just before 11:30 a.m. July 25.
Crews aboard Fire Rescue’s Marine 6 found one person injured after one boat overtook and struck another, according to the agency.
Medics treated the boater while returning to the Aripeka boat ramp, where the person was evaluated and declined to be taken to a hospital.
No other injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation.
Habitat CEO Sutton named to Titan 100 Hall of Fame
CLEARWATER — Mike Sutton, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside, has been named a 2026 Tampa Bay Titan 100 Hall of Fame honoree.
The Titan 100 program, presented by Titan CEO and sponsor Enavate, recognizes 100 chief executives and C-suite leaders in the Tampa Bay region each year.
Two people with ties to the Habitat affiliate were named 2026 Titan 100 honorees: Heather Ford, chief financial officer of Power Design and Habitat’s immediate past board chair, and Jason Clement, founding partner and CEO of The Sports Facilities Companies and a former Habitat board chair.
Sheriff’s Office warns of school zone fines
With classes set to resume, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers that school zones will again be crowded with students, parents, buses, bicyclists and crossing guards.
Speeding in a Hernando County school zone is not just dangerous. It is expensive.
School zone fines:
• 1 to 9 mph over: $154
• 10 to 14 mph over: $304
• 15 to 19 mph over: $404
• 20 to 29 mph over: $454
• 30 mph or more over: mandatory court appearance and fines starting at $604
Deputies will step up enforcement in school zones as students return to class.
