St. Pete Beach Public Library sets upcoming events
ST. PETE BEACH — The St. Pete Beach Public Library has announced its upcoming schedule.
• Tech help walk-in: 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 10. Help with technology basics for phones, computers and library applications. Walk-ins only.
• No storytime: Tuesday, Aug. 11. Storytime is on break this week because of ballot drop-off.
• Open mahjong: 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. Bring friends and play. Not instructional.
• Tech help by appointment: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. Help with technology basics for phones, computers and library applications. No repairs. Because the program runs after regular library hours, all other library services will be suspended during that time.
Habitat Gulfside named nonprofit partner for Taste of the Beaches
ST. PETE BEACH — Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside will be the nonprofit partner for the 2026 Taste of the Beaches, the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce announced.
The chamber selects a local nonprofit each year to receive a share of the proceeds.
Taste of the Beaches is one of the chamber’s signature annual events, drawing local restaurants, residents and visitors to sample the area’s food scene.
Habitat for Humanity Tampa Bay Gulfside helps individuals and families in Pinellas, west Pasco and Hernando counties buy homes through education, preparation, sweat equity and affordable mortgage financing.
Gulf Beaches library announces events
MADEIRA BEACH — The Gulf Beaches Public Library, 200 Municipal Drive, has scheduled the following programs.
Weekly:
• Writers group: 10 a.m. to noon Mondays.
• Adult coloring book group: 11 a.m. to noon Wednesdays.
• Mahjong: 11 a.m. Thursdays. Old and new players welcome.
• Investment club: 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursdays.
• Meditation: 11 a.m. to noon Fridays.
• Scrabble: 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays.
• Storytime: 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, ages 2 and under; 10:30 a.m. Fridays, ages 2 to 4.
Also:
• A Novel Book Club: 10 a.m. every other Tuesday. The fiction group will discuss “Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone” by Benjamin Stevenson on Aug. 11 and “The Binding Room” by Nadine Matheson on Aug. 25.
• Book Lovers Club: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18. The group will discuss “Convenience Store Woman” by Sayaka Murata.
• Adult summer reading: Ends Aug. 7. Read a book, tell a librarian about it and enter a drawing for a $30 Barnes & Noble gift card.
The library is accepting donations of gently used books, but no textbooks. Staff members also offer help with library apps including Kanopy, Hoopla and Libby.

Poirrier promoted to St. Pete Beach fire chief
ST. PETE BEACH — Adam Poirrier will take over as St. Pete Beach fire chief Aug. 3, city officials announced.
Poirrier has more than 25 years in the fire service, emergency management and municipal government, including 11 years in St. Pete Beach. He joined the city in 2015 and has served as district fire chief, EMS coordinator, deputy fire chief and, most recently, assistant city manager and deputy fire chief.
As chief, he will oversee a department of 44 and continue work on fire and emergency services initiatives, including the planning, funding and construction of Fire Station 22.
Poirrier will remain assistant city manager.
Madeira Beach to limit building services during election
MEDEIRA BEACH — Building department services will be limited Aug. 17-19 as Madeira Beach prepares for the upcoming election, the city said.
Staff members will remain available to answer basic questions during the three days, but the following will be unavailable:
• Walk-in permit reviews
• Detailed application and permit submittal reviews
• Planning services and consultations
Full service resumes Aug. 20.
Redington Shores seeks beach photos, memories for nourishment push
REDINGTON SHORES — The town is asking beachgoers for photos and recollections of its shoreline as Pinellas County works to secure money to nourish and maintain the beaches.
Officials say the material supports a customary use ordinance, which recognizes and protects the public’s long-standing right to use the beach. When the public has openly, continuously and historically used an area without interruption or dispute, they say, that use can establish a public right to walk the beach, sit on the dry sand, and fish, swim and recreate.
The town is seeking family photos and videos taken at the beach, historical postcards and brochures, newspaper articles, and written or spoken recollections — in short, anything documenting long-term public use.
Personal affidavits can be notarized free at Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Photos and stories can be submitted at pinellas.gov/customary-use.
