Brookridge Social Dance set for Sept. 5
BROOKSVILLE — The Brookridge Social Dance will be held Sept. 5 at 8150 Hampton St.
The Stragglers will perform a variety of music. The theme is country-western, and dress is casual. Dancing is from 7 to 10 p.m. Attendees should bring their own beverages and snacks; ice will be provided.

The Oct. 3 dance will feature the Debbie Lett Duet, with a Sports Day theme in which attendees are invited to wear their favorite teams’ colors.
A Halloween dance is set for Oct. 24 with Paisley Craze. Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place men’s and women’s costumes, along with awards for best couple and best group. Tickets are $10 per person and are on sale now. Call Thad at 352-345-5271.
Washout closes road in Suncoast Landing
BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County has closed a portion of Whitewater Way in the Suncoast Landing community because of a washout along the drainage side of the roadway. A washout occurs when water erodes soil or other material beneath or alongside a road.
Motorists should use Borland Street to avoid the closed section and use caution while traveling through the neighborhood.
Hernando County public works and utilities crews are monitoring the roadway and will make repairs as weather permits. Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
County warns of Development Services scam
BROOKSVILLE — The Hernando County Development Services Department is warning businesses, contractors and residents about a scam involving fraudulent emails and phone calls seeking payments and signatures for fake invoices.
Several contractors, businesses and residents have reported emails and calls from people impersonating Development Services staff. The messages direct recipients to click on malicious links, provide credit card information to pay large invoices or sign phony invoice documents.
The department handles permitting, electronic signatures and payments only through the county’s official Civic Access portal at www.HernandoCounty.us/CivicAccess.
Anyone who receives a suspicious email or call seeking signatures or payments related to Development Services should report it immediately to the department at 352-754-4057.
Swim lesson voucher applications open
Applications are now being accepted for the Swim Lesson Voucher Program for the coming swim lesson year.
Changes this year include a new age range, new voucher values and time limits, and a revised program cycle.

Hernando Beach Boat Ramp reopens Aug. 12
BROOKSVILLE — Hernando Beach Boat Ramp No. 1, which was closed all day Aug. 11, reopens at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The ramp was closed while repairs were made to a storm drainage pipe. It is at 4483 Calienta St., Hernando Beach.

Broken sewer line in Weekiwachee Preserve
BROOKSVILLE – On Aug. 5, the Hernando County Utilities Department (HCUD) responded to a broken sewer line and wastewater spill in the Weekiwachee Preserve. HCUD was notified of the incident and immediately dispatched personnel to investigate the area. Upon arrival, crews determined that a crack in an Air Release Valve Assembly had caused the spill.
HCUD staff promptly contained the spill, applied lime to the affected area for disinfection, posted warning signs, and collected samples from the spill site. The utility estimated that approximately 4,000 gallons of wastewater were released. In accordance with state requirements, HCUD notified the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) of the incident.
No Hernando County Utilities customers are affected, and the collection system is active.
