The Florida Aquarium is entering the final stage of its $45 million Sea Change expansion.
Last year, The Tide Pool opened during the Aquarium’s 30th anniversary celebration. The 60-foot-long, 4,000-gallon cold-water exhibit is home to hundreds of marine invertebrates in a Pacific rocky shoreline environment.
In 2023, the multi-year expansion kicked off with MORPH’D, a gallery highlighting how animals adapt or camouflage themselves.
“Every phase of this project allows us to deepen connections between people and marine life, expand our ability to inspire future conservationists, and create experiences that will serve our community and visitors for generations,” said Roger Germann, President & CEO of The Florida Aquarium.
Here’s what to expect for the conservation-focused aquarium’s future.
A new Pacific Puffin habitat
The habitat, presented by the Vinik Family Foundation, will showcase a colorful puffin colony with two viewing levels for guests.
Groundbreaking for the new exhibit is planned for the fall, and the seabirds are anticipated to arrive in 2027.
California sea lions habitat with African penguins
In a spacious outdoor environment, presented by Mosaic, guests will see California sea lions and African penguins above and below the water’s surface.
The Florida Aquarium’s final phase is expected to open in 2028.
