Palmetto officials to consider placing temporary moratorium on data centers

PALMETTO — City commissioners are considering placing a one-year temporary moratorium on data centers while city planning staff examines city regulations that may apply to the trending business.

Officials expressed concerns about high water usage to cool equipment in data centers, large electrical demand and noise pollution while noting the potential economic benefits of data centers.

A workshop will be scheduled next month for further discussion.
