In a definitive win, voters have elected incumbent Dave Eggers, 69, to the District 4 seat on the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners by nearly 80% of the vote.
First elected to the commission in 2014, Eggers faced fellow Republican and retired business owner Anthony Ringelspaugh, 57.
Eggers is the chairperson of the commission and received more than $41,000 in donations. He’s worked in real estate for nearly 40 years and has a background in local politics, serving as a city commissioner and the mayor of Dunedin before joining the commission.
His campaign focused on investing in the county’s utilities, support for public safety and recruitment of companies that will bring better-paying jobs to the county.
Ringelspaugh’s campaign focused on hurricane recovery and development. He raised more than $18,000. Since 2006, three women sought protective orders against Ringelspaugh for domestic violence.
Eggers will continue to help guide the county’s request for proposals for more than a dozen of its properties in downtown Clearwater. The county is also preparing for a potential loss of property tax revenue if voters approve a referendum in November that would greatly reduce property taxes.
The Pinellas County Commission has three at-large seats and four single-member district seats representing certain swaths of the county.
The District 4 seat represents the northernmost part of Pinellas, including Tarpon Springs, Dunedin and Oldsmar. County commissioners have a salary of $126,159.
