Two beach concessions expand under renewed licenses

NORTH REDINGTON BEACH — Two of the town’s three beach concession operators will put more equipment on the sand this year under licenses renewed by town commissioners on Aug. 13.

Windsurfin International was approved to increase its jet ski fleet from four to five. The DoubleTree North Redington Beach added 100 chairs and 50 umbrellas to its beach inventory. Beach Services West renewed without changes.

The commission voted 5-0 on each license separately. The renewals cover 2026-27.

Each operator applied to the town, won approval from the Beach Advisory Committee and paid the $110 licensing fee. Each also filed proof of insurance, a plan for securing equipment ahead of a storm, a description of its rental offerings and the locations where it operates.

As each license came up, Mayor Jay Super asked Town Clerk Mari Campbell whether the town had received any complaints about the business. Campbell said none of the three had drawn a complaint in the past year.

Juneteenth is added to the town’s holiday schedule

The Town Commission unanimously approved an amendment to the town employee policy adding Juneteenth to the schedule of paid holidays.

The item was approved on the consent agenda.

Juneteenth, observed June 19, marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people there were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect.

Town renews planning agreement with Forward Pinellas

The Town Commission unanimously approved a new interlocal agreement with Forward Pinellas for planning, mapping and special project services.

The item was approved on the consent agenda.

The town first entered into the agreement Oct. 1, 2018, with Forward Pinellas in its dual role as the Pinellas Planning Council and the Pinellas County Metropolitan Planning Organization. That agreement was later amended and extended by four years.

The new agreement runs from Oct. 1, through Sept. 30, 2030. It may be renewed for one additional four-year term, through Sept. 30, 2034, if both parties agree.
