Seminole scored 19 points Aug. 21. It took the Warhawks all of last season to score 20.
That arithmetic arrived in the best possible package: a 19-7 win over crosstown rival Osceola in the season opener at Warhawk Stadium.
The victory was Seminole’s first since Nov. 5, 2024, snapping a 10-game losing streak. The Warhawks went 0-10 last fall in Thomas Pipkins’ first season and were outscored 452-20, including a 40-0 loss to Osceola.
They trailed this one 7-0 after a quarter and were still tied 7-7 entering the fourth. Then Seminole scored 12 points in the final 12 minutes to pull away.
Jon Holloman completed 7 of 14 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Both went to Ryan Abbott, who finished with four catches for 109 yards and played both ways, adding five tackles and an interception. Tyler Vargo led the ground game with 42 yards on six carries. Laybin Yokley had four tackles and a sack.
Pipkins took over in 2025 from Auggie Sanchez, who left for his alma mater, Northeast, after leading Seminole to an 8-2 record — its best in more than two decades.
Osceola (0-1) had won the past three meetings in the series.
Seminole (1-0) is off this week and returns Sept. 4 to host Hollins. Osceola visits Gibbs on Friday.
