Linsey Grove and Trevor Mallory will head to the November general election for the St. Petersburg City Council race to represent downtown and neighborhoods to its south.
Five candidates ran for an open District 6 seat vacated by Gina Driscoll because of term limits.
Grove and Mallory took 28% and 23% of the primary vote Tuesday, respectively. They will now head to a Nov. 3 runoff. All voters in the city will be able to vote in that race.
Grove, 39, is a public health practitioner who runs a local shared services organization serving nonprofits.
Mallory, 54, leads a nonprofit that offers first-time homebuyer assistance, prepurchase counseling and foreclosure prevention services.
The next council member will get to weigh in on the future of Tropicana Field, the city’s contract with Duke Energy and improving water and sewage systems.
Voters citywide will also choose between two candidates running in the District 2 race to represent the city’s northernmost neighborhoods: Gabriel Hament and Courtney Bermudez.
