TAMPA — The eighth annual edition of Tampa Death Fest will deliver an underground death metal showcase on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 4-5, at the legendary Brass Mug, 1450 Skipper Road, Tampa.
Doors open at 4 p.m. each day. The show will get underway at 5 p.m. Tickets are available online at ticketbud.com.
This year’s lineup will fuse rising underground brutality with veteran icons. On Friday, festivalgoers will hear bands such as Florida’s own Syndicate, Eroguro Phantasmagore, and Unholy Disciple; as well as national acts like Leprosy and Viogression. On Saturday, catch performances from bands like Grave Filth, Ramtha, and Puerto Rico’s Gangrenesia. The revelry will conclude with Tampa legends Nasty Savage.
As one of the bands that helped ignite Florida’s extreme‑metal movement in the mid‑1980s, Nasty Savage remains a cornerstone of the scene and a perfect headliner for a weekend built on pure aggression.
“If you crave real death metal, raw, heavy, and unfiltered, the kind Tampa helped define, this is one of 2026’s essential weekends,” event organizers said in a press release. “Two nights. Zero filler. Maximum brutality. See you in the pit.”
Tampa Death Fest headliners
Emerging from the Midwest underground in the late 1980s, Viogression’s early demos paved the path to their 1991 debut album, “Expound & Exhort.” Based on its reception, the band was tapped to accompany Death and Pestilence on a world tour. “Passage” followed in 1994, shortly before the band went on an extended hiatus. They returned with a vengeance in 2014, releasing their EP “A Pure Formality.” Most recently, Viogression released two back-to-back studio albums, including “3rd Stage of Decay” in 2022 and “Thaumaturgic Veil” in 2025.
Viogression is known for blending old‑school brutality with philosophical explorations of the human condition.
Thrash metal outfit Nasty Savage honed their aggressive speed and thrash style in Brandon in the early 1980s. The wild and theatrical stage antics of frontman “Nasty” Ronnie Galetti helped draw attention to the band in the early days. Galetti often smashed television sets over his head on stage. The band’s eponymous debut included the standout track “XXX,” recorded at Progressive Music in Tampa. That song caught the attention of Metal Blade Records, who promptly signed the band. The band released two more albums in the 1980s, including “Indulgence” and “Penetration Point.” They returned in 2004 with “Psycho Psycho.” Nasty Savage remained active playing select live shows.
In October 2024, the band released its latest studio album, “Jeopardy Room”.
Leprosy is an old-school death metal band that incorporates horror, blood and gore. Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the band has toured with Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Entombed and Venom.
Gangrenesia may call Caguas, Puerto Rico, home, but they are used to playing prominent underground extreme metal gatherings. Formed in 2022, the band is known for its relentless style featuring heavy slam riffs.
Ramtha earned recognition as a 2026 national finalist in the Wacken Metal Battle in Germany. An extreme‑metal band from St. Petersburg, they fuse death metal, thrash, grind, and hardcore into a high‑intensity hybrid sound. To date, they have released two EPs, “Void Tyrant” (2023) and Through Eyes of Death (2024),
