HERNANDO COUNTY – A former officer with the New York Police Department faces multiple charges involving sexual acts with a youth, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.
On Aug. 18, a grand jury was convened and issued a six-count indictment against David Agosto, 57.
The counts are one count of sexual battery on a person under 12 (capital), one count of L&L molestation on a child less than 12, two counts of sexual battery on a child 12 to 16 by a person in familial or custodial authority and two counts of L&L Molestation on a child 12 to 18.
On July 29, Hernando County Sheriff’s Office detectives received information regarding a sexual battery investigation involving a juvenile victim.
Detectives learned that the suspect sexually abused the victim, who was known to him, on multiple occasions. Agosto is a former New York City Police Department officer and previously worked as a deputy with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
As part of the investigation, detectives conducted interviews and executed a search warrant at Agosto’s residence. During the search, detectives located more than 163 grams of marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia belonging to Agosto.
Following questioning, Agosto was arrested on the sexual counts, and for possession of paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
