Sheriff’s Office reports
Deputies made four arrests and handled three rescues over a recent 72-hour period, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office briefing report. Among the calls:
• Deputies arrested a man wanted on felony warrants from another agency and found a large quantity of agricultural produce in his possession, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said. He was booked on the warrants and an agricultural violation.
• A deputy who stopped a driver for a suspended license found drugs and paraphernalia in the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. The driver was arrested.
• Marine deputies rescued boaters stranded by mechanical trouble, the Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies found the disabled boat, brought the occupants aboard and towed the vessel back to the ramp.
• Deputies found a disoriented man walking near a road after he wandered away from his home, the sheriff’s office said. Paramedics evaluated him at the scene, and he was returned to his family.
• Deputies searching for a missing child found the youth unharmed near the home the child had left, the Sheriff’s Office said.
• A suspect was arrested on an aggravated battery charge after deputies responded to a domestic disturbance involving a knife, the Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies reported minor injuries at the scene.
Lightning blamed for Brookridge house fire
BROOKSVILLE — Lightning sparked a house fire in the 14000 block of Brookridge Boulevard in Brooksville on Aug. 26, Hernando County Fire Rescue said.
Crews responded just after 2 p.m. and found smoke coming from the rear of the home. Firefighters knocked down the fire before it spread, the agency said. All occupants had gotten out before firefighters arrived, and no one was hurt.
Investigators determined lightning caused the fire.
