Clearwater Library system to celebrate 110 years
CLEARWATER — The Clearwater Public Library System will celebrate 110 years of library service with “Celebrating 110 Years: The Carnegie Legacy Continues,” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave.
The free event is open to all ages and will be in the Heritage Studio on the library’s fourth floor.
In 1916, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie gave the city $10,000 to help establish its first public library, on the site where the Main Library stands today. The program will look back on that legacy and on 110 years of connecting residents with learning and discovery.
The Carnegie Foundation has also awarded the library system a $10,000 grant in honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary, continuing a relationship that dates to the library’s beginnings.
Open houses to air new FEMA maps
CLEARWATER — The Federal Emergency Management Agency is preparing to issue new flood insurance rate maps for the Alligator Creek watershed, a change that could add or drop the flood insurance requirement for properties in the area.
The city has scheduled three open houses where residents and business owners can learn why the maps are changing, how the new maps will be used and what steps they can take to guard against flood damage.

Texas Tech headlines 2027 Clearwater Invitational
CLEARWATER — Texas Tech, the national runner-up, headlines an 11-team field for the 2027 Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational, set for Feb. 18-21 at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
The ESPN Events softball tournament returns for an eighth year with Shriners Children’s as the title sponsor. The field draws from six conferences and includes eight teams that reached last season’s NCAA Tournament: Clemson, East Carolina, Florida State, Liberty, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCF, Virginia Tech and Washington.

AC Hotel opens rooftop bar
CLEARWATER BEACH — Salt & Sky, a rooftop bar, has opened at the AC Hotel Clearwater Beach.
The rebranded space features a new bar design, elevated seating and an updated menu. The cocktail list is built around fresh ingredients and a range of spirits, and the food menu offers shareable plates, salads, handhelds and desserts.
The renovation also added a connected 947-square-foot space for gatherings and private events.
“From the elevated rooftop setting and sweeping views of the Intracoastal Waterway and gulf to the fresh cocktails and menu, Salt & Sky is the perfect place to settle in, take in the view and enjoy a memorable evening above Clearwater Beach,” said Lizzie Long, the hotel’s marketing manager.
