City to host hazardous waste event
ST. PETERSBURG — The city of St. Petersburg is hosting a household hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Pinellas Technical College, 901 34th St. S, for hazardous household products that should not be placed in normal trash collection.
Residents are encouraged to bring their household hazardous waste items to the event; trained professionals will ensure the items are disposed of in a safe, environmentally friendly manner.
Accepted items include:
• Antifreeze
• Gas
• Household chemicals
• Oil
• Lawn and garden chemicals
• Mercury-containing devices
• Paint products
• Pool/spa products
• Rechargeable batteries
• Signal flares
Block party to celebrate SPC’s 99th birthday
ST. PETERSBURG — St. Petersburg College will host a free community-wide block party Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SPC’s Midtown Center during SPC Day.
Presented by Suncoast Credit Union, the celebration will mark the college’s 99th anniversary. It will feature live entertainment, local vendors, food, family-friendly activities and opportunities for students, alumni, employees and community members to celebrate Titan pride. As SPC prepares for its centennial in 2027, the event also showcases Midtown Center’s growing role in St. Petersburg’s historic Deuces Corridor.
SPC Day also serves as the college’s annual day of giving, supporting scholarships and student success.
Taste of Pinellas to mark centennial of Johns Hopkins
ST. PETERSBURG — After a 13-year hiatus, Taste of Pinellas is returning for one year only in celebration of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s 100th anniversary. The beloved community tradition will return on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027, at Tropicana Field, bringing thousands of guests together for an unforgettable evening of food, live entertainment, family-friendly experiences and community celebration, all benefiting Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
In February of 2027, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital will close a year-long celebration, marking a century of caring for children and families throughout the community. To commemorate this historic milestone, Taste of Pinellas will return for a special one-night event celebrating the people, businesses and organizations that have helped make the Tampa Bay community stronger.
“I can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate 100 years of caring for children in our community than bringing back this beloved event filled with great food, fun and music,” said Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital President Alicia Schulhof. “This centennial milestone has given us the opportunity to reflect on the past and the incredible evolution of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and our exciting future ahead. We look forward to celebrating with old friends and making new friends as we round out this extraordinary year.”
Taste of Pinellas will once again unite an anticipated 20-30 local restaurants, each offering a diverse array of flavors and signature bites. Guests will have the opportunity to sample new favorites, rediscover beloved classics, and experience firsthand the vibrant culinary spirit that defines Pinellas’ food scene.
Participating restaurants will be unveiled leading up to the event.
