LAND O’ LAKES — Metro Development Group representatives and county leaders broke ground Sept. 1 on an amenity center at Angeline, and Metro and BayCare Health System used the occasion to announce a program that will place a registered nurse in the master-planned community to help residents manage their care.
The amenity center, to be called The Social, will feature pickleball courts, a tot lot, a dog park and a pool.
The health program, the Metro x BayCare Health Care Navigator Program, introduces a care navigator who will serve as a resource for residents and provide easier access to BayCare services.
The care navigator will keep a regular on-site presence at Angeline and be residents’ first point of contact for health and wellness questions. A registered nurse will also be available by phone, email and chat to coordinate appointments, connect residents with preventive screenings and wellness programming, and help them determine the appropriate level of care.
BayCare’s mobile health unit will visit the community regularly to provide vaccinations, blood pressure checks, glucose testing and other preventive screenings.
“Health and wellness are central to the way we design our communities, and that includes making access to quality care more convenient for our residents,” said Lisa Gibbings, Metro’s vice president of marketing and communications, in a news release. “Through this partnership with BayCare, we’re introducing a unique approach that brings trusted clinical guidance directly into the community while making it easier for residents to access the care and wellness resources they need.”
The “town” of Angeline continues to grow.
The community sits in northern Land O’ Lakes, stretching south from State Road 52 and eventually past the Ridge Road extension off the Suncoast Parkway. The 6,200-acre development has been under construction since Metro acquired the property in 2018.
In less than eight years, Metro has added hundreds of homes and a welcome center with a community garden at the entrance off State Road 52.
Angeline Academy of Innovation, a $52.7 million magnet school that ultimately will serve grades six through 12, opened in August 2023 and is now in its fourth school year. Its principal, JoAnne Glenn, attended the groundbreaking, as did Brenda Garcia, principal of Angeline Country Day School.
The community is also home to the 775-acre Moffitt Speros campus, which will feature 140 buildings, including clinics, research space and housing, with expansion planned into the coming decades.
When fully built out, Angeline is expected to have about 35,000 residents.
