NORTHDALE — Hillsborough County is close to finishing a round of upgrades at Timberlan Sports Complex, the unstaffed park at 4948 Timberlan St., and expects to reopen it fully in the coming weeks.
The park remains open in the meantime.
The county Parks & Recreation Department said the work includes a new playground and swing set, an expanded parking lot and a series of Americans with Disabilities Act improvements.
The ADA work added a sidewalk to the basketball court, wider parking spaces, grab bars in the restrooms and lower paper towel dispensers. The parking lot gained about 10 spaces.
The complex also has a paved trail, a basketball court, a pavilion and a large field used by a rugby club, a youth football program, a charter school and a lacrosse group for games and practices.
One of them, the Tampa Mayhem, won the USA Rugby League national championship on Aug. 29, beating the Los Angeles Roosters 30-26 in Lawndale, California.
The county did not disclose the cost of the work.
