The lies are inescapable. On every screen, the merchants of disinformation exert their cruel dominion. There is the queasy sense that we’re drowning in a slipstream of screeching noise and mindless ephemera. The water is rising. The ground is shaking. The shadows are long and the lights are low. It’s the perfect time for a new album from Rise Against.
Few bands have ever been as accurately named as the Chicago punk quartet. While fleeting styles and fashionable imitations have entered and exited vogue, Rise Against have remained a north star of artful resistance. While continuously updating their formula, they’ve sustained their original spirit of rebellion over a quarter century, amassing a body of work that doubles as a chronicle of our collective unraveling. Melodic hardcore detonations co-exist in perfect tension with dire warnings about the looming dystopia. And on their latest Loma Vista release, “Ricochet,” they’ve made what might be their most visceral, urgent, and high-stakes song cycle.
In more than 25 years together, Alkaline Trio has created their own little universe in their songs, one that is a bit dark, a bit brooding, and always just a few short steps away from Armageddon. Their music has been a reliable black mirror of reality.
The beloved punk stalwarts released “Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs” in 2025. For the album, they stripped their sound down to the bare essentials of the sonic identity that endeared them to a generation of punk fans. To capture the purest essence of their sound, they enlisted Grammy winning producer Cameron Webb and spent several weeks holed up at Studio 606 in Northridge, California, the private recording space owned by Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters.
Hailing from Washington, D.C., Teen Mortgage climbed from the city’s primordial punk soup in 2017 after guitarist/vocalist James Guile relocated to the nation’s capital from Liverpool, UK, and by a stroke of luck was quickly able to find hard hitting drummer Ed Barkauskas via a desperate Craigslist post. As a two-piece they stood out — crossbreeding East Coast hardcore aggression and garage/surf sleaze with a focus on pop sensibility.

Neals has earned numerous accolades and awards for her self-written and produced blues infused gems that are heard on SiriusXM’s B.B. King’s Bluesville. She skillfully crafts blues, rock and soul melodies into unforgettable songs that are pushing the boundaries of postmodern blues. Her talent with her three-and-a-half octave mezzo-soprano voice has been recognized by everyone in the blues genre including the legendary Buddy Guy. He recently invited her to open for him at his iconic Chicago club Buddy Guy’s Legends in January 2025.
Neals has brought a fresh and contemporary energy to the blues genre, infusing it with elements of rock, soul and a hard-hitting Detroit sound. She was trained by Motown songwriting legend Barrett Strong. Her dynamic stage presence and powerful voice have contributed to revitalizing traditional blues music, attracting a wider audience and garnering attention from listeners who may not typically gravitate towards the genre.

Winger is an American hard rock band from New York City. Their debut album, “Winger,” came out on Atlantic Record’s label in 1988 and achieved platinum status in the United States and gold in Japan and Canada. Winger stayed on the Billboard Top 200 chart for over 60 weeks, where it peaked at No. 21. It spawned such hits as “Seventeen” and “Headed for a Heartbreak.” To support the album, the band toured for over a year with Bad Company, Scorpions, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Poison, Skid Row and Tesla.
In 1990, Winger was nominated for an American Music Award for Best New Heavy Metal Band. Their follow-up album, “In the Heart of the Young,” was released in 1990 and just like their first album, reached platinum. It peaked at No. 15 on Billboard’s Top 200 and hits off this album include “Can’t Get Enuff,” “Miles Away” and “Easy Come Easy Go.” To support this album, Winger toured the world for 13 months, playing over 230 dates with Kiss, Scorpions, ZZ Top, Extreme and Slaughter.
The change in musical climate of the mid-90’s led the band to go on hiatus in 1994 after the release of their third album “Pull,” which peaked at No. 83 on Billboard’s Top 200. In 2001, the band reunited, completed several very successful tours and have not looked back since. In 2023, they released their seventh album, “Seven.”

Founded in New York City’s Staten Island in the early 1990s, the Wu-Tang Clan is comprised of members RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, Cappadonna, and the deceased Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Their name is a reference to a 1983 martial arts film.
Led by the production of RZA, samples from martial arts films have thematically appeared throughout the group’s music, as have samples of classic funk and soul tracks from artists like Rick James, James Brown, and Syl Johnson. Dopethrone is a sonic gut-punch of sludge metal nihilism. The Montréal trio conjures a tar-thick atmosphere of addiction, misanthropy, and bottom-feeder blues called “Slutch” — a vicious hybrid of black metal bleakness and NOLA-style sludge with a heavier-than-thou DIY mentality. Since 2008, they’ve churned out essential slabs of audio filth.
After their breakthrough album “Dark Foil” in 2011 caught the ear of legends Voivod, they were summoned to perform at Roadburn Festival in 2012. Since then, they have kept spreading the madness on stages across the globe, from the Maryland Doom Fest to Hellfest in France.
