TOWN ‘N’ COUNTRY — Hillsborough County will begin work this fall on a $50 million replacement of a failing wastewater pipeline beneath Waters Avenue, a four-year effort county officials say is needed to prevent leaks and keep sewer service reliable as the area grows.
Crews will replace 22,000 feet of 24-inch force main, laying a new pipeline within the existing road right-of-way. The line will run four miles from west of North Manhattan Avenue to Sheldon Road, passing beneath the Veterans Expressway. The county expects to finish by early 2028.
A 2021 assessment found the pipe’s performance had deteriorated and concluded that replacing it was necessary to maintain reliable service and protect the environment, the county said.
The new line will meet current standards and include air release valves, which prevent gas from building up inside the pipe. The county says the work will cut the risk of spills, reduce emergency repairs and support future growth in the North County service area.
Residents got a look at the plans July 13 at an open house at the Town ‘N’ Country Regional Public Library.
