Pasco deputies fatally shot a man who they say pointed a shotgun at them Thursday night during a domestic call in Land O’ Lakes.
The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. inside a home on Causeway Boulevard, Sheriff Chris Nocco said at a news conference Friday morning.
Deputies responding to the domestic call found an injured woman outside a trailer. At least two deputies went into the trailer to try to talk to the suspect, Enoch Keenan Harville, 61, to try find out what happened, Nocco said.
“It was a close-quarters situation in that trailer,” Nocco said. “It was very tight.”
Harville appeared holding a shotgun, according to Nocco.
“The deputies kept ordering, ‘Drop the shotgun, drop the shotgun,’” Nocco said. “He then lowered the shotgun, pointed it at the deputies. The deputies then fired their rounds at the suspect, killing him right there.”
The sheriff’s office said the names of the deputies will be released Monday, after the 72-hour delay required by the recently updated Marsy’s Law. They have been placed on routine leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the shooting.
The agency said body camera video will not be released, citing an exemption in Florida’s public records law stating that video captured inside private residences must be kept confidential.
Nocco said the woman identified as the victim during the call told him, “If it wasn’t for the deputies, I would have died. They risked their lives for me.”
