The mayor of the Pasco town of St. Leo has resigned after an investigation into his actions at Saint Leo University, where he was employed as a safety administrator.
Citing a “need to focus my time and attention on my family,” Vincent “Mike” D’Ambrosio resigned as mayor in a letter submitted to the Pasco town on Monday. Commissioner Curtis Dwyer was appointed interim mayor.
He had served the town of fewer than 3,000 people as mayor since 2022.
D’Ambrosio, who worked as head of safety and emergency management at Saint Leo University, did not specify what prompted his resignation.
However, in response to questions about D’Ambrosio from the Tampa Bay Times, the university cited an “allegation” that prompted an internal investigation, leading to his dismissal.
“As soon as we were made aware of the allegation, Mr. D’Ambrosio was placed on administrative leave,” a university spokesperson said in a statement. “We immediately began a thorough internal investigation. At the conclusion of that investigation, we determined that we had enough information to terminate for cause.”
The university declined to share details about the allegation or investigation, calling it a personnel matter.
Reached by phone Wednesday, D’Ambrosio declined to comment on his resignation or termination. Other St. Leo commissioners did not respond to requests for comment.
A Pasco County Sheriff spokesperson said the office has not been contacted about any criminal incidents pertaining to D’Ambrosio.
D’Ambrosio’s last day with Saint Leo University was Sept. 2, the university spokesperson said.
